Advanced Minds

I have got the impression from several faq's I have been reading that Arrays are tolerated within C++ but rather frowned upon. I have also gained the impression that it might be better to have your own Array Class and use this instead. Could someone explain why Arrays are frowned upon, if I am right in this assumption and also why an Array Class would be preferable and  the outline of what an Array Class might look like.
