To summarize, the price is too high, the product isn't exclusive to ASP, the label isn't as well known as others in that price range, and it isn't a local (ASP) carver.<< Summery - I can't do anything more about the price, I don't know how any well known brandname could be exclusive to ASP especially since the general comments were that the group did not want a single shape or finish pipe made just for the group. I will disagree that Castello is not as well known as other brands, Castello is well respected and very well known worldwide, but yes, they are not a local ASP carver. ****** I asked for your comments and you offered them, for that I thank you. Please understand I am not looking for a right or wrong here, I am not going to post my resume on ASP or justify why I thought this idea (Project) was a good thing for a group of pipe smokers/collectors. The simple fact is that if there is no interest in going forward with the ASP Castello project then it will be canceled, no harm no foul. I don't own the inventory and have no commitment to it, but I'm surprised that the response was so small considering all the lurkers on ASP. Too bad, it was an unique chance to have something special co-branded by ASP & Castello. -Bob PS:  I really like the Certificate that Bill B did too !

Hi Bob, Sorry I didn't see your earlier posting - I've been offline a lot lately.  I did look at the Castello ASP pipes numerous times and didn't order one for a very simple reason ... I didn't like any of the pipes up there ... pretty simple.  While I'd still be interested in getting one, I'd have to see a shape / finish that grabbed me and screamed buy me now .  Sorry it didn't work out.  Nice thought though and I for one appreciate your efforts.

First I'd like to thank all of you that answered my request from this morning on why the response has been so limited so far. I'd also like to address some of those comments briefly before I go further on what I expect the end result will be for the ASP Castello project. I have cut and pasted a few comments below which I'll address directly, PLEASE understand that I am not looking for a fight, I'm just trying to understand your feelings and issues. I am also trying to decide if I will cancel this project for lack of interest. ****** Please read the news section and FAQ section of the site that was set up for this project if you would like to understand exactly what the project is - it is NOT a ASP POY (Pipe of the Year) or a single shape made exclusively for ASP as the feeler threads I put on ASP in August concluded that the group in general did not want a single shape or finish. http://www.castellousa.com/asp_news.htm http://www.castellousa.com/asp_faq.htm ***** I would prefer to buy an ASP pipe from one of those listed above rather than someone who has no interest in ASP.<< Fair enough, but I wonder if Dunhill, Radice, Jacopo, Savinelli, Comoys, GBD, Ascorti, Becker, etc etc have an interest in ASP and post here. I understand the comment concerning local artisan pipe makers, but does it apply to major brandnames as well? ***** Also, having just visited the site again, I found 17 pipes to select from, although Bob, you mention there are 51? << There are actually 53 pipes available and shown on the ASP Castello Selection site ***** My personal feelings are that I'd like my POY to be from someone who contributes to the group. I don't think everyone feels that way.<< I don't understand how this is a factor. Castello in whether a major brandname, very well respected Worldwide. The ASP Castello Project offers folks a chance to select one of their pipes and have it stamped ASP. Whether or not the agent for the project has posted 10 times over the last month or well over 500 times over the last 14 years increases or decreases the value of the product? **** I think the others nailed the main points.  You're relatively unknown to most of us on ASP.  Prior to wanting to sell this Castello ASP pipe project, you posted about 10 times in the past year.  Not exactly a regular participant.  ...   So, I would suggest that it is you who came to us with a Castello Project to sell, rather than those of us on ASP who were asking for one. << Very true, not the part about posting on ASP as I've been doing that since the beginning, but yes I did bring the project to ASP as a chance to acquire a major brandname personalized for ASP. No one asked, I thought it was a good idea and contacted Italy to see if Castello would consider it possible. If someone had connections to say Dunhill and offered the same ASP Stamp on a group of Dunhill pipes, would that be a good idea or no one on ASP asked you to ? ****** For my part, the discount on the pipe I was interested was not significant enough to warrant an immediate order. Even with the given discount, the prices I received did not represent a great value, and I am not will to pay too much of a premium (over retail) for an ASP stamp. As this is obviously a for profit project, the prices, in my opinion, should be competitive. But that's just my opinion.<< I understand that Castello pipes are not inexpensive, but they are priced by Castello not by me. I did look around the net at offered prices both in Italy and the USA, then considered the cost of the stamp, shipping, duty, re-shipping, etc (all of those costs are included in the price quoted) and offered a discounted quote under suggested retail similar to competitive net prices for Castello pipes, in the USA and in Italy. ****** To summarize, the price is too high, the product isn't exclusive to ASP, the label isn't as well known as others in that price range, and it isn't a local (ASP) carver.<< Summery - I can't do anything more about the price, I don't know how any well known brandname could be exclusive to ASP especially since the general comments were that the group did not want a single shape or finish pipe made just for the group. Perhaps you posted under another name?  The _link_ More Options next to you name clearly shows about 10 posts in 2006 prior to the ASP Project, and about another 10 in 2002. http://groups-beta.google.com/groups/profile?enc_user=EcCt7w8AAADKiQ9... I don't see how the situation would be any different if someone offered a Dunhill, or even if a local pipe maker made a post and offered to make an ASP pipe.  I think the point is that the desire and  selection for an ASP pipe should be organic from within the group, not posted as a solicitation from someone outside ASP who wants to sell us pipes.

Warren: As stated before, I'm not going to post my pipe related resume on ASP to justify anything.
