I have a Colt CAR-15 with two uppers - the upper that came with it (long bull barrel, with very nice Leupold illuminated reticle sight) for long range/bullseye/target shooting, and a short (14 ) flattop upper with a removeable handle and peephole sight. I'd like to mount some sort of optic on the short upper for p_link_ing, varmint hunting (coyotes at 50-200 yards)and possibly for 3 gun competition. In a perfect world, the optics would: 1) Allow fast target acquisition with both eyes open 2) Be tough and reasonably weatherprooof 3) Offer good low light performance 4) If possible, allow for 1-3 power magnification (optional) I'd like two sugestions. One if money wre no _object_, and one in the under $400 range. I've seen some ACOGS optics that look pretty good, but don't know enough at this point to judge whether they're worth the $800-1200 price tag. That seems like a lot of sight to put in a $600 upper.
