I wanted to try out a Whippy Tempomaster but I'm too cheap to pay $100 for one. I liked the concept of practicing with a flexible shaft, so I ordered a graphite junior flex shaft and installed it on a 5 iron head without any tip trimming. The length was correct without any trimming from the butt end of the club as well. I took it out to the range today and it was pretty interesting. It definitely doesn't like when you try and over-swing. It definitely made my hands more active, because when I would alternate to my regular clubs, I would draw or hook them. We'll see if this helps or destroys my swings after a couple of range sessions. Has anyone else tried something like this? Adam A zillion trick-shot artists, ha. There have been dozens who put on demonstrations with rope or chain connecting the club handle and the clubhead. They hit balls normal distances with those. See
http://www.chuckthehitman.com/ The principle learned from the Whippy or other similar clubs is NO HANDs as your arms as passively as possible just allow the clubhead to flail through, the shaft straightening and clubhead aligning before impact due to the clubhead weighting design and centrifugal forces alone. If you apply hand leverage, the shaft bends and you will almost miss the ball entirely. You also learn to make a full connected turn with your torso simply flinging your arms and your arms simply hanging onto the club, no conscious arm action and certainly no conscious hand action. The Whippy literature and Video contain drills that emphasize this principle
