A viewer at my site recently tried to view/download/get into my htaccess file.  He wasn't able to, and it generated a 403 error message. But I'm just wondering why anyone would attempt that, or why they would even think I had an htaccess file.  There is nothing that is password protected at the site.  The htaccess file contains the instructions to redirect errors to my guardian cgi _script_, and a few added file types that my host's servers don't recognize.  That's all that's in there. Is there anything someone could do with it if they *were* able to edit it that I should be worried about?

Surely if anyone _could_ edit the htaccess file on your server (not just get the file and edit a local copy), surely they could mess things up, e.g. prevent all access to your pages, or redirect your URLs to porn sites, or whatever. But that would require _write_ access (and then that someone could probably write, modify and delete your pages at will anyway).
