general rules:  (1) your mattress must be firm, not soft or a waterbed; (2) you must keep fluffy bedding (pillows, comforters, etc.) well away from baby; and (3) you shouldn't be drunk or stoned while co-sleeping. So do the all the people that co-sleep do without pillows and comforters? We short-sheet the bed and coverings

Sarajoyo <notmyrealaddr...@earth_link_.net wrote in message : Personally, DH is very : aware of Sproutkin (perhaps because we've always slept with her) and we : both wake up when the baby stirs : : My DH, though a deep sleeper, is also very aware of Laura, and it's never : been a problem. Consider yourselves lucky! The night before last I got up to go to the bathroom and Monkey woke up while I was ... um ... a little indisposed. By the time I got back to the bed to pick him up he was in full-on screaming mode

But lately her waking has been a bit more random, so she still wants a nursing or two while it's still dark outside, so it's just easier and better to have her with us.   Same here

I sometimes find it comforting that my son has fallen asleep next to us in bed.... We always knew that we wanted to have him sleep in the bed with us, but I did some research on SID's and it seems like bed sharing can lead to SID's....... Is it possible that what I thought everyone was doing is outdated??? I think the main thing is that, as long as you take reasonable precautions, co-sleeping is really safe, but that you have to remember that you and your wife are people, too. If you, your wife and your baby all get enough sleep and continue to enjoy co-sleeping, you should keep doing it, but, if any of you hate it or you can't get enough sleep, you shouldn't feel like Dr. Sears is going to come yell at you if it turns out to be more practical to put your baby in a crib.
