We always knew that we wanted to have him sleep in the bed with : us, : but I did some research on SID's and it seems like bed sharing can lead to : SID's....... Is it possible that what I thought everyone was doing is : outdated??? : : : : Not outdated, in anyway, nohow!! Except....maybe in the US of A, that is. :  Cosleeping, as other posters have noted, if done correctly, is one of : the safest ways to go, and there is research that shows a DEcrease in SIDS : rates when cosleeping with your infant. Personally, I feel if I'm right : THERE and she stops breathing, starts coughing/choking/etc, I can attend to : her SO much quicker than if she were in another room. : : So, take precautions, but cosleep with certainty & pride - we do!! : : Corinne : Cosleeping, BFing SAHM to Brighid Richenda, 06-23-01 Well, we're in the US of A and *we* cosleep, but I must admit that the few times the subject has come up I've felt like a two-headed monster from the looks I've gotten! LOL I don't know what you've been reading that says bed-sharing leads to SIDS because *everything* I've ever read on the subject says the exact opposite! You've been reading fraudlent, agenda-ridden phony research . Co-sleeping seems to prevent SIDS. The stats on smothering are only for people who are drunk or on drugs. The rest are subconsciously aware of their child, and anyway, you can use a shaped pallet made of blankest in bed with you and still get the benefits of co-sleeping. Steve I have seen something in a baby magazine you can buy to put between you where the baby can sleep, it has raised sides so the baby will stay in it. I'd rather sleep with the baby in my arm when I'm sleeping, but for naps it seems like a good idea. Marie

We've co-slept for a year now, with no real end in sight, and I agree, it is comforting.  My son always starts out the night in his crib

general rules:  (1) your mattress must be firm, not soft or a waterbed; (2) you must keep fluffy bedding (pillows, comforters, etc.) well away from baby; and (3) you shouldn't be drunk or stoned while co-sleeping. So do the all the people that co-sleep do without pillows and comforters? We short-sheet the bed and coverings
